Scany
Privacy Policy
Scany is a document scanner. It captures pages with the camera, builds a PDF, and uploads that PDF to a cloud folder you choose. This policy describes what the app uses, what it does not collect, and how Google user data is handled.
Who is responsible

Data Scany uses on your device
- Camera. Used only to preview pages, detect paper edges, and capture scans. Frames are processed on-device. The app does not upload live video.
- Temporary scan files. Captured pages are stored in a temporary session folder on the phone while you scan and review. After a successful upload you can clear them. Scany does not keep a library of past scans.
- Account tokens. After you connect Google Drive, access tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain so you do not have to sign in every time. Disconnecting deletes those tokens from the app. iCloud uses the iCloud account already signed in on the iPhone; Scany does not receive your Apple ID password.
- Chosen folder. The destination folder you pick is remembered locally so later exports can go to the same place.
Scany’s privacy manifest declares that it does not track you and does not collect Apple-defined data types for analytics or advertising.
Google user data
If you tap Connect Google Drive, Scany requests:

That access is used only to:
- Sign you in and display which account is connected
- Let you pick or create a Drive folder
- Upload the PDF you just scanned into that folder
Scany does not read unrelated files in your Drive, does not share your Google data with other apps, and does not use it to train models or to advertise.
Google API Services User Data Policy — Limited Use
Scany’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:
- Google user data is used only to provide or improve user-facing features that are prominent in the app (Drive sign-in, folder choice, and PDF upload).
- Google user data is not transferred to others except as necessary to operate those features, to comply with law, or with your direction (for example, uploading a file into your Drive).
- Google user data is not used for serving advertisements.
- Google user data is not sold.
- Human access to Google user data is limited to cases such as investigating a bug you report, security review, or legal obligation — not routine reading of your scans.
iCloud Drive
If you connect iCloud, Scany writes PDF files into its iCloud Drive folder on this device (visible in the Files app as iCloud Drive → Scany). Apple stores those files under your iCloud account. Disconnecting in Scany stops future uploads; it does not delete files already in iCloud.
What we do not do
- No analytics SDK, advertising SDK, or crash-reporter that ships scan contents off-device
- No photo library requirement — cloud upload is the primary export
- No account of our own: you sign in to Google or use the iCloud account on the iPhone, not a Scany server
Scany does not operate a backend that stores your documents. Files go from your iPhone to the cloud provider you selected.
Retention
Temporary page images remain until you upload and clear the session, or discard the scan. Cloud copies then live in your Google Drive or iCloud Drive under that provider’s retention rules. You can delete those files there at any time. Disconnecting Scany from Drive or iCloud stops future uploads; it does not delete files already saved.
Children
Scany is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated text will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
